Celebrating Inspirational British Women - Happy Mother's Day!

At Fox & Kit, we feel the perfect way to mark Mother’s Day is to celebrate some of the amazing women who have been inspiring us in Britain over the last decade. Whether it be sporting achievements, charity work or campaigning for amazing causes, here are just a few remarkable women who have well and truly made their mark!

Jessica Ennis-Hill

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill has wowed us time and again over the last decade, becoming the Olympic heptathlon champion in 2012, world champion three times over as well as European champion. But what we find pretty incredible is that just 15 months after giving birth, Jessica won the heptathlon word title in Beijing, making that three world championship gold medals in a row! (15 months after giving birth, chasing our very active toddlers, giving piggy back rides and playing horsey was as active as we got!)

Orla Doherty

At Fox & Kit, we feel passionate about minimising our use of plastic and we have so much respect for Orla Doherty, the television producer who produced the finale of the Blue Planet II series, watched by more than 10 million people. It was pivotal in getting people talking about the damage plastic is doing to our oceans and through her work, she has inspired a generation to make crucial changes.

Jane Tomlinson

Before she died in 2007, Jane Tomlinson raised £1.85 million for charity, despite suffering from terminal cancer. Just one of her unbelievable sporting achievements was a tandem cycle ride of 1300 miles with her brother from John O’Groats to Land’s End. She also founded the Jane Tomlinson Appeal which, to date, has raised over £10m.

Joan Barker

In December 2019, Joan Barker celebrated her 100th birthday. She has fostered over 200 children and has kept in touch with many of them, her home covered in photos and including a ‘wedding wall’ featuring the wedding photographs of those who went on to marry. Incredible!

Who is your inspiration? The women we have mentioned have all achieved unbelievable things and we like to think we take inspiration from each of them in different ways. But we also want to take this chance to thank our Mums for being the most wonderful role models and amazing us every day with their love, kindness, strength and determination. Thank your Mum with Fox & Kit Gift Co.
